I think I just need to ask this question more clearly.
What is the cheapest/easiest chemical reaction that
will produce Hydrogen?
What is the cheapest/easiest chemical reaction that
will produce Oxygen?
1. This reaction in a flask with a blow-off tube will
produce soap bubbles of the reaction gas in a tray.
2. Bubbles of both types of gases will intermix in
the tray.
3. A volunteer is chosen from the crowd.
4. Demonstrator and volunteer put in EARPLUGS.
5. Demonstrator has volunteer scoop up a handful of
bubbles and extend hands outward.
6. Demonstrator ignites bubbles, producing a very loud
BANG. No harm comes to Demonstrator or Volunteer.
I have done this DEMO with a bunch of teachers before.
It is totally harmless and lots of fun! I just need
to know about cheap and easy ways of isolating the
gases so I do not bankrupt my science department.
Hope this clears my question some,
Scott Contini
