Subject: Summer workshop on Physics and Music

Hi everyone. Please consider attending the following workshop and please
forward to anyone who you feel might be interested.

Do you teach Physical Science, Physics, or Music?

Would you like to include more of the physics of music and musical
instruments in your curriculum?

Would you like to have meaningful activities for your students that are
related to the musical scale, stringed instruments, wind instruments, and
percussion instruments?

Would you like to help your students learn to make simple musical
instruments?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, please consider applying for a
free three day Summer workshop in late June.

The Physics and Music workshop is funded by the Wright Center for Innovative
Science Education and will be held at Sonoma State University in Rohnert Park,
CA. The workshop will begin on the evening of Tuesday, June 21 and conclude
after lunch on Friday, June 24.

The workshop is designed for teachers of science, physics, or Music who would
like to supplement their curriculum with the physics of music. No knowledge
of the physics of music is necessary. Participants be presented with the
following topics:
• A review of waves and sound
• The physics of musical sound and the design of the musical scale
• The physics of stringed instruments
• The physics of wind instruments
• The physics of percussion instruments
• Designing a musical instrument project for students

Participants will also have the opportunity to perform laboratory activities
related to the physics of music and musical instruments. In addition, at least
two simple musical instruments will be built by each participant. There will
be plenty of giveaways (books, musical instruments, curriculum) as well.

The workshop, including lodging in the dorms at Sonoma State University as
well as all meals, is offered free of charge. Participants are responsible for
transportation to and from the workshop.
