Hi L:ou,
Most of the methopds for making smoke involve some risk with chemicals and
that includes the zinc/iodine/ammonium nitrate smoke generator. Another way
to make lots of smoke is to join a stream of ammonia (NH3) gas with a stream
of hydrogen chloride (HCl) gas, however, both of these gases are toxic and
must be handled with care. How about using pulverized dry ice to make a fog
that could pass through the wind tunnel?
