Geoff -

I've been using Heath's "Earth Science" textbook (copyright 1994) for the
last five years. It was a definite advantage over the book I inherited
from the previous teacher which was the 1972 edition of the same book.

Advantages - good pictures, fairly easy reading, good labs, lots of
supplementary materials.

Disadvantages - end of chapter questions are horrid (just basic recall),
heavy on vocab.

I tend to use the book as a backup and interweave a lot of labs and
activities that I pick up at workshops. I use the questions as review for
the students. I haven't looked at other textbooks to compare Heath with,
but have been pretty happy with the book. Feel free to ask me more
questions!
